Park and Boxwood Garden of the Chateau de Caudon
The Park and Boxwood Garden of the Chateau de Caudon is located near the town of Domme, France. It is situated on a hill above the Dordogne River, which provides a spectacular view. The garden was created between 1808 and 1814 by the Marquis Jacques de Malville, one of the authors of the French Civil Code.
It features an alley of plane trees that are almost 200 years old, a garden of boxwood hedges, and a labyrinth (top picture).
Unfortunately, the garden is open for a very limited time each year. It is open daily from the end of June to the end of July, and during the month of September. Hours are from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
Two hundred years old - impressive.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering how long those trees live!
DeleteHi Sherry .. love the box garden ... and avenues of trees always draw me in .. Domme looks a fascinating historical place in the Dordogne ..
ReplyDeleteGreat to read about - Hilary
I thought the avenue of trees was really pretty.
DeleteThe mini-hedges are cute.
ReplyDeleteThose are part of the maze.
DeleteI would donate generously. What a great find! Hope I get to France someday. I was there back in high school and did not appreciate all of the sites. So much to see and do.
ReplyDeleteFrance is a great country to visit!
DeleteThat labyrinth looks fun to go through. The closest similar thing I've walked through is a corn field.
ReplyDeleteI've done cornfield mazes. This one is much nicer, because you can see over the top!
Deletelovely!
