Keukenhof Gardens

If you love tulips and spring flowers, the place to visit is Keukenhof Gardens near Amsterdam.  The gardens cover over seventy acres and are planted with nearly seven million spring flowers.

The gardens were the idea of the 1949 Mayor of Lisse.  He wanted to create an open-air flower exhibition to showcase Dutch bulb grower's latest hybrids.  It is now the world's largest and most photographed flower garden.

If you want to see it, the best time to go is in April.  The gardens are located between the towns of Hillingom and LIsse.  The exhibition runs from the end of March to May.

  1. Seventy acres of flowers??? Wow! I wonder how many gardeners they have on staff to care for the flowers. I bet it smells heavenly.

  3. Hi Sherry,

That's a lot of tulips. Maybe I should head over to Holland and go there instead of visiting the centre of Amsterdam.

  4. wow - tulip mania. This is fantastic.
I did spend the weekend in Vegas and frankly the Bellagio conservatory is worth a mention - tulips, butterflies, Chihuly glass - it was all really pretty.

    1. I hope you do get to see them. It's really not all that far away from where you live.

  6. May aunt is from Amsterdam. I grew up with tulips in the front garden, and I kind of miss them. Maybe I should encourage my daughter to plant some in "her" flower garden out front. ;)
